Pretty Good, Not Bad, I Can't Complain

All things considered, our participation in the Silicon Valley Brain Tumor Ride was a big success.  As I wrote last week, I've been a bit foggy and lacking in energy since tapering down on dexamethasone a couple of weeks ago, so I had my doubts about having enough in the tank for a fifty-mile ride (kind of embarrassing since we used to ride 75 to 100 miles a day without giving it a second thought).  Happily, I felt great and even had enough for some unplanned detours - a combination of poor signage on the route and generally being unfamiliar with the  Peninsula - when all was said and done, I probably rode closer to 60 or 65 miles (including a few at the finish that I could have done without).

It was an gorgeous day for riding, particularly beautiful as some patchy high fog rolled through as we climbed the Santa Cruz Mountains. I made the ride with Steph and an old friend from elementary school and between the three us, we raised over $1,500 for the National Brain Tumor Society.  I truly appreciate all of the support.  If you were interested in donating but missed this chance, Steph will be running in the NBTS Race for Hope 5K in Philadelphia at the beginning of November.  I've decided to sit this one out and cheer for Steph which should be fun since the race begins and ends on the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps that Rocky made famous.  Here's the link:

Doing the ride was also a first step in demonstrating to myself that I can get some energy back and feel more like my old self after a year of feeling tapped out by chemo and steroids.  I'm still feeling a bit of uncertainty about what to do next in terms of treatment so in the meantime, it is good to focus just on feeling healthy.  I'm fortunate to feel as well as I do.
