Hooray for a home!!
We've been reluctant to write since we left Canberra. It has been a different transition. And although we should be used to moving this has been a harder move than we've had in the last few years. We've been staying with family and friends, we've traveled and we unfortunately even had a few days in the hospital (Chris coming down with pneumonia in Canada). But mostly, we've been superstitious, not wanting to share our news until it was for real. After talking about buying a home in San Francisco since we first lived here we finally did it.
We bought what we think is paradise in the Richmond district. A space we are now furnishing and decorating and imagining living in, together.
Chris is recovering well now from his hospital stay at the beginning of August. The last MRI showed stable disease - a similar result as for the last 10 months. Thus, he has only one more planned cycle of Temodar and then we'll be facing another decision point in his battle with cancer. While Chris has managed the chemo like a champion and the cancer has not progressed there are no definitive signs that the drug is working either and continuing to wear down his body may not be the best approach. Our own goal in returning to SF is for Chris to start focusing again on health - on those things he can do to make him feel better. For sure work can zap anyone of energy but for someone with cancer undergoing chemotherapy it really can take all the energy out.
To start to see Chris slowly return to himself here in this city we love has been worth making this transition. After Labor Day Walt will begin preschool and soon after that I am returning to work at UCSF. We are all excited that this has come together and looking forward to creating another, hopefully healthier, new normal for our family.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers and do not hesitate to be in touch. We are here now and would love to hear from you and see you family and friends.

Hi Chris and Steph,
ReplyDeleteI hope you will have many happy (and healthy) times in your new home. The kids loved Berkeley when we went to visit friends there this past April, so hopefully we will be able to see you and your new place the next time we make it up. Hang in there!
P.S. just read an article about how high doses of vitamin D3 actually attacks cancer cells and destroys them. Perhaps you should ask your doctor if this is something you can add into your regime? You never know.....
